For millennia, the rivers of South Asia have carried more than water. They have carried kingdoms and caravans, pilgrims and poets, merchants and monks, weaving together a vast human landscape stretching from the high Himalaya to the Bay of Bengal.
This gallery follows those ancient pathways through India, Nepal, and Bangladesh—from the sacred waters of the Ganges and the timeless villages of the Narmada Valley to the deserts of Rajasthan and Gujarat, the wheat fields of Punjab, the monasteries of Ladakh, and the temple towns of West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha.
Along these routes, spiritual pilgrimage and everyday life often unfold side by side: a sadhu at dawn, a farmer at harvest, a child at play, a family gathered for prayer. Together, these images document a region where history remains deeply rooted in the present and where rivers continue to serve as both lifelines and pathways to the sacred.
